Beth Whitaker
For 27 years Beth Whitaker has commuted to Holy Angels from the mountains of North Carolina to provide assessment and consultative services to our residents and community participants from a Psychological perspective. Using her long term knowledge and experience she has worked closely with the Interdisciplinary Teams at Holy Angels to provide a higher quality of life to the residents and community participants served in Holy Angels programs. Recently retired, her humble personality, flexible nature, approach ability and empathetic attitude towards all Individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities will be remembered for years to come.
2017 JOANNA NICHOLS – VOLUNTEEN OF THE YEAR
Rich Gray
Rich, an enthusiastic Volunteen since 2014, has assisted with Winter Wonderland, Haunted Greenhouse, and the Costume Dash. He has supported Angel Bowl for three years by being one of the top fundraisers as well as committing his entire day to assisting the Foundation with the event. Rich secured a grant for Teens Changing Gaston County in support of our newly created outdoor classroom.
2017 JOANNA NICHOLS – VOLUNTEEN OF THE YEAR
Bailey Hanafin
Bailey has grown up at Holy Angels as her Mother, Lori Hanafin serves as our Director of Social Work – so Holy Angels is a second home for her! She volunteers year round, helping with events like Santa Day, Angel Bowl, Winter Wonderland and Haunted Greenhouse to name a few. Bailey started officially volunteering in 2014. She has developed a close bond with one of our youngest angels, Ethan. Bailey has enthusiastically been Wonder Woman at several Cotton Candy Factory events and is always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she is called.
2017 VOLUNTEER GROUP OF THE YEAR
Bank of America - Global Technology and Operations
Led by Caroline Worchester, this group reached out to Holy Angels to purchase Christmas gifts for our residents, generously becoming “Christmas Elves”. They assisted with Winter Wonderland by baking goodies to share with guests and assisting residents with games and hayrides. They have completed several campus beautification projects from painting a gazebo to replanting a tiered flower bed for our residents to enjoy. The team also gives of their treasures, making regular donations that are matched by Bank of America.
2017 ED SABATINI ADVOCACY AWARD
Jodi Kines
Jodi has truly taken Holy Angels into her heart and shares her love for our mission wherever she goes. She has served on our Grazie Mille Gala committee, securing auction items and lending her creative talents. Jodi and her husband, John, have invited friends and family to our Gala as their guests as a way to educate and encourage others to celebrate and support Holy Angels. She has lovingly encouraged her children to weekly visits to two of our youngest angels as well as volunteer at Camp Hope during the summer.
LYNN LEONARD SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD
Jeaniene Dibble
Jeaniene has been a volunteer since 2005. She patiently and creatively works with our residents and LifeChoices participants to tap into their unique talents and help them express themselves through different artistic mediums. Jeaniene helped our residents create their first art show where special guests were invited to see and enjoy our residents’ art. She is a wonderful mentor to Amy and Cheryl. Cheryl’s mother Iris says that Jeaniene saw in Cheryl a gift no one else saw and with her encouragement, Cheryl has so much more self-confidence. Jeaniene has truly been a mentor as well as teacher for the residents and participants.

2017 DENNIS MCCLAIN VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
David and Joanne Sigmon
David Sigmon retired in 2014 after 10 years of service as the Director of Facilities and Maintenance. He willingly stepped back into this position when it became vacant, as well as continue to maintain his commitment to the summer boat rides as a captain and as one of our “top elves” in placement of Christmas decorations around campus. Joanne retired in 2015 after 30 years as the Director of Nursing, Employee Health Nurse, Volunteer Coordinator, and leadership in the Safety Action Team. She stepped in to assist the CEO when her executive assistant was on medical leave as well as volunteering her mornings as a receptionist. Together, David and Joanne have served as campus supervisors to allow staff to attend the Annual Employee Appreciation Banquet.
